Hazel Watling: Insights into Language Testing and Teaching: Navigating Communicative Competence, the CEFR, and the Comprehensive Learning System
Biography:
Hazel Watling is working as Global Assessment Solutions Project Lead. She has over 15 years international experience in teaching and training. For the past 12 years, she has worked at the British Council in various roles, including four years in academic management positions. She is currently based in Spain.
Abstract:
In this session, we'll look at the relationship between communicative competence, teaching and assessment. We'll explore how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is shaped by models of communicative competence, highlighting its significance in language education. Additionally, we'll examine the Comprehensive Language System (CLS) and the importance of aligning educational components with a shared standard of language proficiency.
