London is once more a great idea!
The Croatian Association of Teachers of English (HUPE), in collaboration with the Agency for Education and Training, organized a professional development program in London during the summer break for 62 English language teachers from Croatia.
The five-day training included a rich program of workshops and on-site lectures, offering participants both professional growth and the opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere of London. Under the guidance of Nino Sertić and Anita Jokić, board members of HUPE Croatia, the teachers explored many of the city’s iconic landmarks and took part in a variety of engaging and educational activities. During their stay, the teachers visited iconic London landmarks such as Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tower Bridge, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and enjoyed a scenic boat ride along the River Thames.
Throughout the program, they gathered a wealth of valuable materials, which were compiled into a comprehensive handbook. This resource will support classroom teaching in areas such as literature, culture, and the civilization of the United Kingdom and London, as well as Britain’s influence on global history.
The participants visited Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre with a professional guide. During their visit to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the teachers enjoyed a guided tour that brought the world of Elizabethan drama to life offering a rare and inspiring glimpse into professional theatre production in an iconic historic venue.
An unforgettable visit to Tower Bridge included exploring the history and engineering of this iconic structure and its surroundings through fascinating interactive workshops and interdisciplinary resources. They also explored the vibrant Borough Market, one of London’s oldest and most renowned food markets, where they enjoyed a variety of international delicacies.
There was no shortage of fun and socializing, with entertaining pub quizzes, and they were especially thrilled by the musical Mamma Mia, performed by an outstanding cast.
