It was a normal sunny day, in my region - a classical January day. Winter started last month, on the 21st of December. It was cold, but not that cold. The cold was here a few days before winter even started. There was no snow; keep that in mind.
We had been expecting snow as soon as the cold started. There were no signs, but we didn't think anything of it. My family and I hadn't seen snow in too long, even more than 4 years. The reason is that we live near the sea, so it is pretty much impossible for snow to reach us- unless there is a mountain next to us. So, as winter started each year, we've been trying to go the big mountain in front of us, expecting a large amount of snow. But no snow appeared. We 're sad, each time we thought to ourselves: ''How would we celebrate winter and Christmas without snow?'' After all, snow is the most important thing in winter. But we didn't just give up that easily. We waited, and waited, and waited. There was still no snow. Until, years passed by, and something happened.
Winter started again, like every year. Expecting snow, nothing came. However, this time mom turned the weather channel on. The weatherman announced that temperatures will be plummeting to below 0. Mom told dad and I, and we're excited, for the first snow! But we realized, we weren't thinking that straight. Snow requires temperature below 0 and rain. There was no rain that was going to appear in the current or following weekend. We have quickly, after realizing that, stopped being excited. But we didn't just stop there. As temperature dropped below 0, we saw some rain coming. This was the perfect chance to see snow finally. But our predictions were not realistic. As we lived in this near-the-sea region, the chance of this happening was extremely rare.
It was the afternoon; we're scared snow wouldn't come as we would have to sleep because it was late. Temperatures started to drop to -5 degrees. We were waiting for the rain to reach to our house. But then something remarkable started to happen: the sky became cloudy, the temperature, a bit warmer, but still stayed below 0. And we all went outside together, still no rain or snow, but I felt the first droplet. Wait, droplet? Temperatures are below 0, shouldn't there be snow? What a waste of time. As more droplets began to appear, we lost faith and started to go home. And again, this is not the end of the story! Because just as we were coming home, the first snowflake has fallen, Dad started to see even more snowflakes, and then it started. The first snow we had ever experienced, has finally happened. We took our jackets, winter hats, winter gloves and started to play in the snow. Making snow angels, having snow fights, building snowmen, it was beautiful. And right there at that moment, I have just witnessed the day that changed everything in my life.
