One small act of kindness

It was a rainy Saturday morning, and thirteen-year-old Emma was in her room reading a biography. She found it even more boring than History lessons, so boring that she was struggling not to fall asleep. She was barely keeping her eyes open, and eventually, she fell asleep. She was sleeping until she was awoken by a loud noise. She thought that it was just her sister Anna but soon she realized she was home alone. Worried that someone had broken into the house, she got up and started looking around to find where that sound was coming from. She checked every room, but she couldn't find anything, confused, she just decided to go back to sleep, but this time she decided to close the blinds. While she was walking up to the window, she saw something strange. It was a little blue bird that crashed into her window. Emma didn't know what to do. She was worried that the bird could die if no one helps it, so she had an idea. She grabbed a basket and put a blanket into it to create a nest. After that she took the bird and tried to place it into the nest. Emma was worried that the bird was scared, so she slowly and carefully tried to grab the bird, but it started backing off. Then she grabbed a stick from her drawer and placed it near the bird. After some time, the bird finally stepped on it, then Emma placed the stick in the nest. While the bird was trying to process where it is, Emma went on Google and started researching about birds for a full hour. She found out that the species of bird that crashed into her window was a budgie. She was worried that someone had lost their bird, but in that moment it didn't really matter. What was important is that she found out that the bird was a baby by looking at the iris in its eye. She also found out that he was a boy. He reminded her of her favourite movie, Rio, so she named him after it. First, she gave him some space, so he could get used to the room. She was excited to finally have a pet, but then she remembered that she can't tell her parents about it since they don't allow her to have pets because they don't think that she's able to take care of animals. So, she hid him before her family returned, she covered Rio's nest with another blanket so her parents wouldn't see him. When her parents came home, rhey were curious why she wasn't coming out of her room, so they decided to enter her room. Just as they entered the room Rio decided to chirp. Emma was nervous will her parents find out about Rio, but they just came to say hi and tell her to come eat dinner. She was relieved, soon after Emma went downstairs to eat dinner. During dinner, she tried to hide an apple slice in her pocket while no one was looking. After dinner she went back into her room. When she got back into her room she saw Rio on her bed, she slowly started coming closer to him, he did the same as soon as he saw Emma hold out the apple slice. He climbed on her hand and started eating, he was eating like he hadn't seen food in days. After he finished, he started flying around the room. It was great, they were slowly becoming best friends, but her five-year-old sister, Anna, decided to enter her room out of boredom. She was shocked when she saw a bird there, which was now resting in her sister's hands.

-You have a bird? - said Anna

-And you are so annoying, don't you know how to knock? - said Emma angrily

-Okay sorry, but you know that you aren't allowed to have pets. - said Anna smugly

-Yeah, I know, please don't tell mom and dad. - said Emma. already annoyed

-Well, my candy drawer has been super empty recently. - replied Anna

-Fine, what do you want. - said Emma while rolling her eyes

-Nothing, I will be nice.- said Anna

-For once. - whispered Emma

Anna then left the room, while Emma took Rio and put him into his nest so he could sleep. The next day came and feeling bad, Emmma decided that today she will open the window so Rio could go outside and hopefully find his real home. She was unhappy regarding this decision, however she believed it was the right thing to do. Rio was happily flying around her room, she then gave him water, food and a final goodbye. Before she opened window Emma decided to put a little white hat that she made from her gloves. Then she opened her window to let him go. Rio was happy but on the other hand he didn't want to leave his friend alone. While Emma was upset, but she believed that she should let go. During that, Anna came into Emma's room and saw Rio flying away. She didn't say anything, but she sat next to her sister and hugged her. Five years went by. Emma turned eighteen and finished reading a lot of biographies, in fact she now loves reading. Anna turned ten and never told anyone about Rio. Emma didn't forget about Rio and she still missed him, she missed him so much that she decided to go visit Australia. During her visit in Australia, while on a walk she saw a blue budgie with the exact white hat she gave to Rio before he left, it was him. He flew with all his strength into Emma to hug hrt. After that day Emma decided to live in Australia and explore the world with Rio for continues to wear his little hat. In the end, one small act of kindness lasts a whole life.
