One small act of kindness

It was 7:30 in the morning and I just woke up. I did everything as usual, I got dressed, brushed my teeth and packed my bag for school. I left my home at exactly 8 o'clock and got to the bus station. The bus arrived there at 8:15 and we headed to the school. Everything was fine until it wasn't. I was sitting right behind the bus driver and I noticed he was crying. When everyone was getting off the bus I stayed beside the bus driver and asked him if he was okay. He said he was okay and wiped his tears away. I knew he wasn't okay so I asked him again and told him to be honest with me. After a moment of hesitation he finally said that he was going through a really tough time and had no-one to talk to. I haven't ever been in that kind of situation so I wasn't quite sure how to help him or how to react to his problem. I didn't know what to do so I offered to share my 2 sandwiches from my school bag and he agreed. I got the two grilled cheese sandwiches out of my bag and we ate and chatted for 10 minutes about how our life was going. I comforted him a little and told him to be strong even when times were rough. He appreciated my small act of kindness and I went to class since it was almost time for the first period. The first period I had was Maths and everything went well. I was solving problems and chatting with my classmate beside me about the time I had on the bus. I told him about how the driver was crying and that I ate a sandwich with him. I thought I did a good thing but my classmate said that the driver was some kind of creep and that I should have just minded my own business. I said to him that I absolutely did the right thing but he kept denying and saying that I should have left him alone and gone to class. We got into a heated argument but it wasn't anything big so we just went on with our day. The second period was Chemistry and I had to write a test since I missed it due to being sick a week before. I became a little nervous but knew I studied hard for that test so I wasn't stressed. I got the test and as soon as I looked at it I knew I was getting a good grade. I was done with the test in 20 minutes and followed what the teacher was saying for the rest of the period. On my way to the next class which was my least favorite class and it was Biology, I was walking to the classroom and suddenly, the principal stopped me in the middle of the hallway. He told me to come with him and started walking towards his office. At that moment my legs froze and my voice softened. I was so scared as well as confused because I didn't know what I could have possibly done to go to the principal's office. So many things and thoughts went through my mind in that short 30-meter-walk. I was walking slowly behind him wondering why I am going there. When we arrived he told me to wait outside a little as he went into his office. I waited a little until I heard his voice shout my name to come in. His office was big and even had a fish tank with so many fish. He had a huge desk with three monitors and a big computer under the desk. I walked to the chair and on his command I sat down. When I sat down there was an awkward silence for me because I didn't know what he was going to say to me. He said that he knew I was confused and that I was not in trouble and that I shouldn't stress too much. After he said that my heart beat dropped from 115 to 80. We waited a minute and somebody knocked on the door. I looked towards the door and the bus driver walked into the office. As he was entering, he smiled at me and I became so happy. From being so worried when getting to the office, to now having the biggest smile on my face. He sat down and the principal started talking to me. "I heard very nice things of you. The bus driver said that you comforted him on the bus earlier this morning, he also said that you are such a well-behaved child and that he is impressed with your kindness. You know the thing you did was very nice and even though you knew it wasn't going to change much you still did something to help." The smile on my face grew even bigger and I was proud of myself for doing something nice. Then the bus driver started talking to me. "You know, you really made my day. I didn't think anyone would notice me and even if they did they would walk past me and go on with their day but not you. You stopped, talked to me and even offered a sandwich. After you left I was so carefree and grateful for a long time. You helped me, so the principal and me decided to do something for you. You and your entire class are going on a little trip to the cinema tomorrow and are dismissed from class that day." I couldn't believe it. I thanked them so much and me and the principal went to my class to tell the news. My class was cheerful and they were shouting my name and celebrating. When I got home my parents hugged me and said that they were proud of me. I thanked them for raising me to be a good person. They said that they were getting me that new phone that I wanted for Christmas. I went to my room so joyful and thought to myself how a small act of kindness can change everything and that being kind is totally free and rewarding.
