Small people, big changes

A long time ago, back in the 1900s, wars and political societies of all sorts used to rule the world. There was not one day when people weren't harmed by the dictators that ruled their countries. But there was a country where war was absent... In Ireland, also known as the "Emergency country", which remained neutral throughout the whole World War II. There were many people in Ireland who wanted for the country to be attacked too. All of that started because of a homeless man called Edward Murphy, or how people called him "Neddy". When you pass by him, you could hear faint sounds of him mumbling something about hating peace or just snoring sounds. The residents of the town he lived in, by the name of Westport, complained to the Mayor about him, who couldn't do anything except give him warnings to stop. After months of complaining, the people of Wesport started agreeing with him and joining in with him. Because of all the protests, local news have started to report on it more. The story was everywhere; TV, newspapers, magazines, local posters and even photos on the Mayors house! When little Soraya Kabuli saw the news on the newspaper, she instantly became scared. Soraya and he rmohter knew alot about already, considering she came from a place where women slavery and the Prophets laws were more important than family. They thought Ireland was their place of "peace", even if peace ment their farmhouse. People would either mock them or respect them. One cloudy day, Soraya went to the market in the heart of Wesport when she heard Neddy murmuring:

"God, when will those dictators come here and ruin this place?"

Soraya's eyes widened in fear.

"War? Dictators? Here? Why would that man think in such a way?" she thought to herself.

Soraya had approached Neddy slowly, after being a foot away from him, she asked:

"Excuse me, sir?"

" What do you want, kid?!"

Soraya flinched at his tone, before speaking softly:

"I just wanted to ask, why are you having such dark thoughts about the war? Why do you want it to come here and make this place worse?"

Neddy laughed at Soraya's words, before speaking in a mockingly colder tone:

"You know, back when I was your age, we didn't dare to speak to elders like you did right now!"

Soraya's eyes filled with tears because she knew that he spoke that way not only because she was a child, but also because of where she came from. But she held back her tears as she whispered an apology before going to the store. When she came back from the store, Soraya ran into her mothers embrace and cried, telling her what had happened between her and Neddy. Her mom was used to it, so she wasn't going to make a big deal about it, but Soraya did. She spent days at the desk, her nose in a book, studying about women's rights. After days of studying she had confronted Neddy and they had a small argument, but later they decided that they should both apologise to eachother and both accepted their truce. The Kabulis were so nice, that they invited Neddy to stay with them in the house. He was skeptical because of the interior of the farmhouse, but still stayed. He was greatful for the first time ever. In return for letting Neddy stay, he has been helping around with the house chores and running errands. The sudden change of his behaviour made people suspicious. They had eventually found out about what the Kabulis have done, even tho they did the right thing. They got mad at the Kabuli family for "brainwashing their army leader", so much so they planned to destroy their home. The Kabulis were oblivious, but Neddy had heard the rumours. He had genuinely became scared. Not for himself, but for Soraya and her mother. When the day came to tear down their house, everyone in Westport gathered in the towns center which was the starting point of their so called parade. They were chanting all kinds of words, which cought the attention of Soraya's mother. "Oh no.." The mother mumbled, watching through the window. Neddy and the Kabulis exited the house and stood infront of it, shielding it like their life depended on it, which it did. Jack, a man known for his sarcastic comebacks yelled some things making everyone laugh. Just as they were about to attack, Neddy snapped:"ENOUGH!" Which caused many weird looks from the others.

"Do you people see what you are trying to do?! You are willing to hurt an innocent family who are trying to stop this mess! Yes, I will admit, I did want the war to come here and eat this place alive. But after living with the Kabulis, they told me that violence isn't the answer to every single problem on this place! So I reckon you leave this poor, innocent family alone and stop having such dark thoughts about the war!"

Neddy had protected this family in such a way that nobody has ever seen. The people standing opposite of the house started to whisper amongst themselves, the whispers getting louder by each second. Another woman called Maurice had actually started to tear up at Neddys breakdown.

"Neddy... I really don't know how to feel. And i will say this in the name of everyone, we are deeply sorry for our actions. I think we all should help the Kabulis and rebuild their house.

Maurice said, whilist the other citizens started to agree with her. Some of them were already looking for materials, such as wood and rocks. By the end of the month, the people have successfully gathered enough material and money to renovate the farmhouse. The other citizens started to protest to stopping the war, causing the news to report about that. The old posters about starting war were tore down, filling the place with more colourful posters. All of that happend thanks to the little Soraya Kabuli who had patience with Neddy and convinced him to stop spreading hate about peace.
