The day that changed everything
This is a story of the day that changed everything. I'm Willow. I'm 21 and I live in a village called "Attor". It's a place near the dragons' nest. There are a lot of legends about the dragons, one saying they help people, the other saying they destroy villages and eat their fruits and vegetables, but no one has seen a dragon in a thousand years and that's my problem.
I have a friend named Kaine. He is always with me when I'm exploring Attor or when I'm having ideas on how to find the dragons. I completely trust him with my life. One day, Wednesday to be exact, we were reading a book about dragons, obviously, and we read a fact that dragons can turn into humans and how to find them and everything. Dragons, when turned into humans, have black hair and a tattoo on their arm representing a dragon. I looked at Kaine and saw that he has black hair, beautiful black hair. He always wore shirts that came up to his elbow and always had a smile on his face...
"Willow?" He said. I was staring at him, but then I looked away so fast someone would think I had a bug on my head.
"Um...Yes?" I replied, he smiled at me.
"You were staring at me, are you okay?" I froze and gave an awkward chuckle.
"Umm, yeah, I'm totally fine." I smiled back at him.
"I think you should rest, Willow." He looked at me concernedly.
"Oh, okay...Bye then, see you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow!" I went to my house and quickly threw myself onto the bed and fell asleep.
I woke up with a terrible headache. It felt unreal, then I got up, put my clothes on and got some Ibuprofen, then quickly went out. I saw Kaine waiting for me. He played with his little sister. She was catching butterflies. I went up to them, Kaine hugged me.
"Hey, Willow, did you sleep well?" He asked and smiled at me.
"Good, woke up with a terrible migraine though..." He looked at me worriedly. I looked up to him.
"I'm fine now, Kaine, you don't need to worry." I smiled trying to hide the pain from him.
"No you're not, Willow, please don't hide your emotions from me."
"Kaine..." His jaw was clenched.
"Please, Willow, go to bed, rest, we will learn tomorrow."
"Okay, Kaine but don't forget to get here!" He chuckled.
"I won't, Will." He made a nickname for me, I went home thinking about that.
We read the entire day but I felt a strange aura around Kaine. Is he keeping me from knowing something? I can feel it, but I can't think of anything he could hide. One thing is for sure - he knows something that I don't and I need to find out what.
"Kaine?" I finally found the courage to speak.
"Yes, Willow?" He answered, I could feel a little bit of fear in his voice.
"Are you hiding something from me?" I spoke, then - silence.
"Kaine?" He got up and left immediately. I was left in shock, confusion and regret. I wanted to follow him but I couldn't find the strenght to go. I cried for hours. I messed up. Years of our friendship are probably gone now. I shouldn't have asked that.
I woke up with heat in my house. People were screaming from the outside. Suddenly, thoughts started lashing through my head "You messed up" "He is never going to talk to you anymore". Then it hit me, he really is hiding something from me.
I quickly got up, got ready, went out and saw my village in flames! Attor is on fire! I looked up and saw dragons, real dragons! I couldn't believe my eyes, but I had to fight. I couldn't see Kaine anywhere, only his sister. My heart broke. She was confused and scared. I ran up to her, got her quickly into my house and told her to stay there. I locked the door. I went to fight but everything was in flames. I couldn't bare to watch it like that.
I was scared, but ran up to the dragons and the others. I couldn't remember anything but flames before I got picked up by a dragon. He flew up to the clouds. It was magical.
After some time in the clouds he went to the ground. I saw Kaine. He was a black and red dragon. I stood there in shock. He was a dragon - that was the secret! He always had shirts to his elbow because he wanted to hide the tattoo from me. He had perfect black hair like all the dragons. I couldn't think much before I got into a big fire. I couldn't see! I couldn't breathe! I was crying and laughing at the same time before a dragon attacked me.
I screamed out of pain and disbelief before Kaine came. He calmed down the dragons, he saved Attor, we won. Kaine quickly talked to me.
"Willow! Are you okay? I'm sorry for everything."
"It's okay Kaine, I'm okay." " A dragon approached me. I touched his head. It was like a blessing. Kaine looked at me.
"They chose you..." I looked at him confusingly.
"Willow...."
"What?"
"You were chosen as the dragon queen."
"What?! " Every dragon just bowed to me.
"No, I'm not like you, don't bow to me, I'm not your - "
"Willow, they have chosen you, or should I say, Your Majesty?"
"No, you call me Willow."
"I wasn't going to call you Your Majesty." he said.
"So, I'm a dragon queen now?"
"Yes, and now you're immortal like all of us."
And that was the day that changed my life. I now rule as the queen of dragons. And Kaine is my right hand.
