School's over. Finnally, I can sleep longer without waking up for school. I can finally go skating, rollerblading and playing videogames all day. Oh, and I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Sunny. I am 13 years old and I live in the beautiful city of Phoenix. It's kind of boring here in Arizona, but what can I do about it? Today I will go skating with my friends at 5 pm, so I will tell you a story. The story of the day everything changed.
Five years ago, I lived in Cleveland, Ohio, and everything was normal. One day, when I got to school, a weird thing happened. My locker vanished. I told my best friend, Susie, about that, and she told me that the same thing has been happening all around the school! When I heard what she said, I was shocked. We went to the classroom, and suddenly, the teacher vanished in thin air! Of course, everyone saw that, and we knew something wird had been going on.
And then Susie admitted it. She told me that, a few days ago, she found an old book that looked like a witches' guide on her grandma's attic. She looked for some curses to get revenge on school because she had bad grades. When she read the curse, she noticed a text above it, which read "Thee who readst this beshrew shall suff'r terrible consequences"... but it was already too late! When she saw what was happening at school the next day, she was terrified and wanted to fix everything. So, being her best friend, I decided to help her. Susie brought the book, and luckily we found the ritual to break the spell. So we decided to try that. We went to my house to try it out. The problem was that the ritual was to be performed on a dead body. We used Susie's old rag doll instead of a corpse, and it seemed like it didn't work. We went to grab a bag of chips in the kitchen, when we heard a strange noise coming from my room. I realized that a hole was in the place of Susie's doll, and some kind of strange force was pulling us into the hole. We had no other choice but to jump.
As we fell into the hole, someone called our names, and it echoed loudly. I wasn't sure falling into the hole was a good idea. When we fell, we didn't feel anything. Were we dead? I tried kicking the wall, and it hurt, so it was real. We were alive, and it wasn't a dream, which got me kind of puzzled. I felt something next to me, so I grabbed it. While standing up, I felt something pulling my hand down. A heavy object. I lifted my hand up, and I realized the heavy object in my hand was none other than a scythe. There was a card on the tip of it, and when I saw it, shivers went down my spine. The death card. The thirteenth card of the tarot, Death signified major transformation, endings, and new begginings. Susie got a sword, and her card was the card of the Moon. Being the sixteenth card of the tarot, Susie's card signified mystery, intuition, subconscious fears and illusions. I immediately knew what that meant, but telling Susie about that, she would just run away. So, instead of scaring her, I told her that we should find an exit out of here.
It was very dark, but fortunately, Susie had a matchbox in her pocket. In front of us stood someone who I will never forget. Ramon. She had dark green fur, a witch's outfit, pink scarf and big glasses. Basically, a humanoid fox-witch. She told us we were in the underground. As for the tarot cards, she told us that, while she was talking a walk, she saw us lying on the ground and decided to tell our fortune.
Soon, in the blink of an eye, a tall, dark figure stood right in front of us. It was Esteron, the Lord of the Underground Realm and the Cursekeeper. He swung his spear, as if it was a stick. Esteron flashed at us with his eyes. He was on for a fight. Having no other choice, we fought. He threatened us he would take our souls if we lost. Wielding my scythe, I felt immense power in my body. Determination. Ramon told me she can put enemies to sleep, but putting Esteron to sleep would mean spending all her power. She did it.
Falling unconscious, Ramon whispered to me "Don't let him hurt you". After she fell unconscious, her words kept echoing in my ear. Suddenly, a scream broke the echo. Susie had been cut. I kept fighting, and suddenly, everything went dead silent. Susie was dead. Tears pouring from my eyes, I felt a need for revenge. Suddenly, Ramon woke up. With the last of our strength, we did it. We beat Esteron. After beating him, each creature in the underground celebrated. For the first time in my life, I was proud of myself.
Once I got back to the real world, all got back to normal. Then I saw Susie. I shouted her name, but she didn't turn around. She looked like a flesh and blood creature, but she was now just a stranger. All the things we did together as kids: gone. Suddenly, remembering her tarot card, I realized she was just an illusion. Luckily, my Death card symbolized a new beginning for me, though unfortunately, an end for Susie. Becoming an illusion was a high price for playing with a curse.
After a few months, my family moved to Phoenix, where I'm right now, to a new school, with a new best friend, and a new skateboard. Oh, God! It's 4:50 p.m! I'm late! Well, I got to go skating. See ya!
