I didn't know that this day was so special because it started like all the other boring days. My name is Mara, and my life isn't special at all. My family is poor, and we live in a tiny apartment. I am an only child, and I feel nothing ever happens to people like me.
It all started in the morning, I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for school. My parents work all day, so I am used to being alone. I got dressed and grabbed my brown backpack with holes in it, then tossed in a notebook that I never open. I was ready for school. I hate it, because I have no friends and everybody bullies me. The moment I was about to leave the building, I got this wierd feeling and started to pull at my jacket. It was strange; it wasn't fear. It was something much scarier and more dangerous. I decided to ignore it. While I was on the bus to school, everything went blurry. Through the window I saw closed shopes that are usually open and lots of blurry fragments. By the time the bus stopped, that feeling in my chest had got even more painful, but I thought I was tired, so I ignored it again. I finally got off the bus and ran to school, straight to History class.
Classes passed more slowly than ever. I took notes I knew I would never read again. The phone in my bag started buzzing, but I decided to answer it later because nobody ever talks to me unless they need something. At lunch, I finally opened the message. It was from an unknown number saying that we needed to meet today. My hands were cold, I was shaking with fear, not knowing what was supposed to do. I knew ignoring it is way safer, but if I did, that message would be in my mind forever. My phone buzzed again, this time the unknown number sent me the adress. The worst thing was that it was close to my apartment, too close.
I stood still at my bus stop for a long time. I felt like my stomach was twisting and that wierd feeling in my chest was never heavier. I decided to go to that address even though I was never so scared in my entire life. I followed that adress and realized it was a tiny coffee shop that nobody ever goes to. I passed by it a million times, but never noticed it. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
When I came in, the door slammed and I entered this huge maze that felt unreal. I looked eveywhere but all I saw were tables that looked like they were made out of liquid light and chandeliers. In a dark corner, I saw a woman with long brown hair and blue eyes holding a cup of coffee relieved that I found her. She asked if my name was Mara and said that she had been looking for me for a long time. However scared I was, I felt like I had seen her before. She told me that she was my sister and she was here to help me. We talked for hours. She said that this world was not the only one and that when she was a baby she got chosen to be teleported to the other world. Eveybody thought she was gone and she wanted to do the same thing with me. I felt like she was telling the truth and I hated my life anyway so I decided to follow her.
After searching everywhere, we found the huge purple door that lead to the other world. I grabbed her hand and jumped in. When I first came in, everybody was so nice. They already loved me and gave me a place to live. My wonderful sister Ana showed me around. There were pastel tress, beaches with green sand and crystal blue water. There were no electornics and huge grey buildings, but I felt like I did not even need my phone. My house was a tiny cabin in the middle of the city, near the dark forest and in front of the beach. Oh, I loved it so much.
I had a great time with my sister. It was great and all, but after a while, I remeberd my parents. I remembered the great moments we had together. If I stay here, they will lose one more daugher and that broke me in tears. Later Ana told me that the portal was closing so if I wanted to go back, I was allowed to. However, I could not return. I hugged Ana and ran to that portal.
A few seconds later, I was back in the coffee shop. For the first time ever, I was glad I was there. I found a way out and saw those grey streets and buildings. Surprisingly, I had smile on my face. When I came home, I hugged my parents. Later I told them everything about the other world and my sister. They were happy that Ana was OK and that I decided to return. It has been a while since this event. I have managed to make some friends and I decided to focus a litte bit more on school and my parents. I met some great friends that I hang out on weekends and have fun with.
I realized that I should not spend my entire life thinking that I am worthless. I still don't know where my life leads. However, I will find out eventually. Nobody has a perfect life. Being horrible or not, it is still mine and I love it so much. I also learned that even if it might have a hundred bad moments, it also had a hundred amazing and fun moments. All I have to do is find them. The day that everything changed not because I changed the worlds and found a sister that i never knew about in my entire life, but because I changed myself and my perspective of life.
