The day everything changed

Wind blows directly in my face as I make my way towards the shore. The sky is utterly beautiful today. Lucky for me and my crew, it seems that there won't be any storms coming. The pocket watch my father gave me ticks loudly and that is my sign. We have to go. I make my way towards my ship and climb up the dais. My entire crew is already waiting for me. The familiar faces smiling in my direction with such respect it warms my heart. This was everything I wanted... but why does it fell wrong? After my father's passing I couldn't bring myself to even put my foot on this ship anymore. The only family I had died on this very floor I grew up on. I know every crew member here and I know they feel the same as me. Everyone loved my father, he was known for being the most fearless, bold and extraordinary captain in Lendoor. Seven years ago my father was killed on the way to the Flame Province by what we thought were bandits. Turns out the one who killed my father was our sworn enemy Zephyr Rackham. He was my father's best friend but when Zephyr found out the king and the queen declared my dad the best captain in Lendoor his jealousy blinded him and he stabbed my dad in the back and took that title from him. Zephyr manipulated the king and the queen into thinking my dad stole the most valuable crown from them and after that we were banished from the kingdom. Since that day we have been living in the Flame Province and we decided we won't sail ever again. That changes today. My dad gave me this title thinking i will avenge him, and I will prove him right. Every head on this ship is turned toward me as I make my way across the dais. I took a deep breath and looked at my crew. "We have gatherd on this ship today to serve justice in my father's name".

I got everyone's attention now and there is no turning back. " My dear friends, as you all know he died a tragic death by the hand of our sworn enemy Zephyr Rackham. He tried to save us and died protecting us." My voice was shaking but I kept my head high. "I as his daughter have a mission I need to complete, and I need your help. The only thing we can do to repay him is avenge him!" Silence. Complete and utter silence. "We will sail through the Dark Sea and over the Tunnel of Death to make our way to lendoor. When we arrive we will make our way towards the Great Villiage and you will have a chance to reunite with your families while I avenge my father." Everyone starts cheering and clapping, jumping and shouting my name. I didn't expect their reactions. I thought they will shout at me for being incosiderate with this decision. "Everyone start preparing for this mission. It is going to be a long sail."

An hour later we started sailing towards the Dark Sea. I've heard many stories about the Dark Sea. the ones my dad would tell me and the ones everyone would talk about. The most feard one is about the creature under the sea... the Sea Witch. The legend says that once midnight strikes and you are still awake you might hear your name being called out. Turns out the creature is just luring you into the water so it can eat you. I know my dad used to have a logbook where he would mostly write everything whenever he would sail. I have to find it. It surely is here in the captains quarters. "Captain Elowyn". I turned around to see Elizabeth calling me. El is my best friend and it's rather weird when she calls me captain. She is my chosen sister. Nothing is going to change that. "Yes, El?" I say smiling. "I am here to inform you that there might be a storm coming ahead, a rather big one. We will have to sail to the closest island." She say worry inclining her forhead. I pull out the map from my satchel and look for the closest island in sight. I forgot that the weather is unpredictable outside the borders. "Our closest island right now is Dalsyn. We will hit the shore in fifteen minutes from now." I say looking at my pocket watch. "Will that be enough time?" I asked. "Yes, it might be enough time but the rain will start pouring soon." She said looking at the sky. I turn the rudder on the northen east side of the border where the Dalsyn island is.

Half an hour later, as El said, the storm started. The night is silent considering that everyone is asleep and the only sounds are the rain and the wind echoing. I finally have the time to search for my dad's logbook. I look in the cabinets in the captain's quarters and find bunch of documents, but not the logbook. As I sit down being defeted , the floor creaks and from one of the floorboards something shiny peaks out. I take the floorboard out and find a wooden box with a golden crest on it. The crest is shaped like a diamond and waves are drawn in perfect motion. It's absolutley breathtaking. I open the box and find a silver necklace inside it. The necklace has a diamond eye beaming a radiant glow. I also found letters that are from... my dad. Deep inside the box there was a small book. I took it out and opened it only to be greeted by the familiar handwriting. This is the logbook. I've finally found it. I put the box and the letters on my desk which I'm going to read later and flipped through the logbook. As I was looking at the book I heard something outside. I slowly place it inside the cabinet and put on the necklace I was holding in my hand this entire time. My head is telling me not to go outside but if something is out there my crew is in danger and I don't want anyone to get hurt. I took my sword out of my sheath and slowly opened the door. Then it hits me like lightning. What time is it? I didn't even have the time to take out my pocket watch when I felt something grazing my neck. The Sea Witch. The blood in my veins turns cold. I slowly turned around ready to face the consequences when a blinding light shined through her. I fell on my back rain spalshing hard in my face. She turned into stone. What just happend? Instinctively I got up and headed for my dad's logbook. I flipped through the book and got to the page about the Sea Witches. Next to the drawing of the Sea Witch is written that the necklace can turn any mystical creature into stone. It was originally made to kill every creature that used to hurt humans. I tucked the necklace inside my shirt and grabbed a cloth from my cabinet. I covered the Witch and decided I need to go to sleep.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Elizabeth asked me for the hundreth time today." I'm fine, El. You don't have to worry so much. Besides I had the necklace with me." I said showing her the necklace. "Gods, Elowyn. How did you even find this?" She asked me her eyes widening. "It was inside my dad's box under the floor. I read his letters, turns out that this is a family necklace that was passed from generations and he saved it for me and the future generation." We already passed the Dalsyn island and were closer to the Tunnel of Death. The Sea Witch is now our sacred possesion, considering that no one actually knew how she looked like.I have this really weird feeling that someone is watching me. Even yesterday when I got attacked but I chose to ignore the feeling. "Elowyn." El says a little louder than usually and I looked at her. " Yes?"

"Captain, we just entered the Tunnel of Death." As I came out of the captain's quarters and looked around, everything was dark just like my dad wrote in his logbook. The entire crew lights a torch including me and as soon as the light hits, bats are flying everywhere. "Everyone get down!" I shouted and something jumped at me covering my body but I couldn't see this something. That same feeling washed over me again. Someone was always watching over me and I had no idea if this something was good or bad. I started breathing heavily and I heard a whisper in my ear. "Stay like this and breath." The male voice was both deep and gentle at the same time. And it was very familiar. I listened not because I want to but because i had to. The bats exit the Tunnel of Death and everyone was on their feet again. I looked for an unknown face but there wasn't anyone that I didn't know. "Is everyone okay?" I asked. "We are fine!" people shouted. "Raise the sails we have to get out of here!" In seconds the sails were up and we were sailing as fast as we could. Ten minutes later light was visible from the other side of the Tunnel. I still couldn't shake the feeling of the voice off. We still had to sail through the Sayric Sea and we will be in Lendoor at nightfall.

I don't know what to expect when we get to Lendoor. It's either going to be my doom or my revenge. Here we are. Seven years later and were here again. It does feel like home but it also feels like betreyal. The night is dark and eveyrthing is silent. We hit the shore and we move quetly..."Elowyn." It's El. "I am not going to let you go alone."She says, her eyes full of tears. "El... this is the deed I have to do alone. It's the only way." She looks at me with those eyes like she would when we were little. "We are meeting here an hour after midnight, now go." She nods and leaves. My sword is heavy in my sheath. I can't shake off the feeling of being watched. As I make my way into a little street, a loud noise in the corner of the alley distracts me from my thoughts. A tall figure stands there completly frozen. Oh, my gods. It's him. That voice was him all along. Axel. Zephyr's son. I pulled my sword out and he smiled. "You haven't changed one bit, Elowyn." He says coming towards me. "I am sorry." He said and he hit me in the head with the hilt of his dagger. " Your dad will be happy to see you." That is the last thing I heard and everything went black.
