HUPE Slavonski Brod Branch meeting

Dear colleagues,

It is with joy that I invite you to our HUPE Slavonski Brod Branch meeting. It will be held on Tuesday, 13^th October, at 3:00 pm. The meeting will take place at Elementary School “Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić” – Zagrebačka 78, Slavonski Brod.

Agenda:

1. "Rights, Not (Only) Flowers": An Interdisciplinary CLIL Workshop on Gender Equality & Workplace Rights – Ivana Opačak, prof. i Ivan Devčić, mag.iur.
   This workshop presents an example of successful modular collaboration between an English language teacher and a law teacher, combining language learning, civic education and legal literacy through a CLIL approach. Developed for upper-secondary students within the framework of the European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS) Programme and international eTwinning cooperation, the workshop uses International Women's Day and Women's Month as a context for exploring gender equality as both a social value and a legal right. Through interactive discussions, debates, legal case studies and creative advocacy tasks, students examine the historical roots of International Women's Day, distinguish between symbolic gestures and substantive equality, and learn about legal mechanisms that protect workers from discrimination. Working in English, they analyse authentic workplace scenarios, apply Croatian and EU legislation, and create awareness-raising materials that translate complex legal concepts into accessible messages. The workshop demonstrates how interdisciplinary teaching can develop students' language skills, critical thinking, civic engagement, digital competences and understanding of European values. It offers a practical model for teachers interested in cross-curricular cooperation and is particularly suitable for marking Human Rights Day, International Women's Day / Women's History Month while connecting classroom learning with real-life social and workplace issues.
   
   
2. Step by Step to Confident Speakers: Building Presentation Skills from Age 6 to 18 – Ivana Borozni, prof.
   Teachers will discover step-by-step methods to make speaking English in front of others less stressful for students aged 6 to 18. Through hands-on examples, participants will match activity ideas to grade levels, explore rules for presenting and active listening, and learn stress-free feedback strategies for any classroom.
